ABOUT THE
TEAM
Members of the FOOTPRINTS
Team have expertise in Medicine, Nursing, Pastoral Care and Administration.
The wide diversity of backgrounds and experience is considered a
strength, and allows for on-going development of the program from many perspectives.
Collectively, the clinical team offers more than 140 years of experience
at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
The FOOTPRINTS Clinical Team:
Dennis, O'Connor, MD - Medical Director
Dr.
O'Connor, MD is Professor of Pediatrics at St. Louis University
School of Medicine and a Hematologist in the Department of
Hematology/Oncology at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
Dr. O'Connor has been caring for children with cancer and
leukemia, and their families, for more than 30 years. He
is also a long time member of the Ethics Committee and has a
special interest in Pediatric Palliative Care.
Dr.
O'Conner participates in the sophomore course on Death and Dying
at the Medical School and facilitates the Cardinal Glennon Resident retreat on the same topic. Dr. O'Connor has been
with the team since it's development in 1999.

Mary Ann Collins, MHA - Director
Mary Ann
is a Medical Technologist by profession with a Master's Degree
in Health Care administration. Her expertise includes more
than twenty years working with the Hematology/Oncology Team as
Supervisor of the Hematology and Blood Bank Laboratories at
Cardinal Glennon and expertise in the development of Pediatric
Hospice. Mary Ann is also Director of Mission for the
hospital, a member of the Senior Leadership Team, and a member
of the hospital Ethics Committee.
Mary Ann
is a IPPC trained faculty leader; is Pediatric ELNEC certified,
and is member of the Board of Supportive Care of the Dying: A
Coalition for Compassionate Care.
Mary Ann
has been with the Footprints program since it's development in
1999.

Kim Peery, RN,
BSN - Care Coordinator, Clinical Nurse Educator
Kim has
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and is currently working toward her
Master's Degree in Nursing as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
She has worked as a nurse in the SSM Health Care System for more
than 8 years in Neonatal Intensive Care and with the "Women's Well"
Program providing community education. Her current focus for
the Footprints program is providing education within the hospital
and in the community on the many varied topics on Pediatric
Palliative Care, such as pain as symptom management; advanced care
planning and family goal identification. She is also
interested expanding the Footprints advanced care planning process
into the perinatal period for those families who are expecting a
child with complex illness. Kim has been with he footprints
program for 2 years. |

Patricia Codden, RN MSN, CNS - Advisory Member
Pat is a
clinical nurse specialist in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
She has extensive experience caring for eh dying child and their
family, both in the hospital and in the home environment. Pat
is well versed in the need for coordination of resources and
services, particularly as the child in discharged home. Pat
has extensive expertise in pain and symptom management, and
participates with Dr. O'Connor in the sophomore Medical Student
course on death and dying, as well as numerous seminars on pain
control and care of dying child for her nursing organizations.
She assisted in the establishment of the Bereavement support group
Endings and Beginnings. Pat offers over 30 years of experience
at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, and has worked with the
Footprints Team since it's beginning in 1999. |
Sr. Judith Carron,
RSM, RN - Care Coordinator and Chaplain
Sr. Judy
is a nurse and chaplain and has been the Director of
Pastoral Care at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital for more
than 15 years. She has worked for years caring for dying
children and their families, in both her roles as nurse and as a
chaplain. she was instrumental in the vision and development of
the Footprints program and continues to guide the team with her
expertise. She also helps to facilitate the early
Pediatric Resident retreat and conversations around pediatric
death and dying.Sr. Judy
is Pediatric ELENEC certified; is past chair of the Ethics
committee, a current member of the team and a member of the
Hospital Mission Awareness team. She is also a member
of the Nation Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC).

Lisa Griebel

Administrative Assistant
Lisa offers
more than 30 years of secretarial experience and organization skills
to the program. She has been employed at Cardinal Glennon
children's Hospital for over 25 years and has a special interest in
the care of the dying child. During her time at Cardinal
Glennon, Lisa has conducted a number of health and wellness
activities for employees. She sits on the hospital Mission
Awareness team and has been with the Footprints program since it's
beginning in 1999. |
